P38 4.6 2001 starting problem

I had a fault today which will probably reappear!

Car working fine on way to work, poped out to visit customer, all fine. Got back in car, it fired and immediately died. Tries it numerous times always the same. no throtle, full throttle fires and dies. If i carry on turning the starter after it dies it just spins and wont fire again till it stop and start again. Waited 15 mins same. Called RAC. While waiting tried again loads of times.

As soon as RAC man arrived second flick and off it went! Fine for rest of day-

Any sugestions?

i had similar few years back, after playing up for a day it was all fine and never happened again. but did change the battery about 3 weeks later !
