Hi
Looking for some advice here on an erratic idle with my P38 Range Rover. I damaged my old airflow meter (small fire which melted it and the inlet tubing) and had to replace with a 2nd hand unit on short notice. However after replacing it my idle speed dropped right down to the point where it will not idle without cutting out. One teh car ir driving it is fine - it's only in slow traffic where teh problems comes back.
I was stuck for the car as my daily so just adjusted the throttle cable to open to raise the idle speed. However sometimes it seems to discover it's correct old idle speed again so with the adjusted throttle cable it then idles at 2000 rpm.
I'm suspecting the 2nd hand AFM might be faulty - would this cause this issue?
What's the correct procedure for replaceing teh airfloww meter. I just plugged the new one in - should something be programmed into the ECU for the new unit?
My 2nd suspicion is the idle speed motor. Thinigs got a little hot around that but not enough to melt the wiring.
(The AFM wiring was burned but that was replaced and double checked for correctness)
I know it must be something small becasue it was perfect before teh little incident.
Any ideas? All help would be appreciated.
