P38 2000 4.6 ABS & TC fault

Hi all,

I changed the rear discs and pads on my 2000 P38 4.6 at the weekend - thankfully all came loose quite easily.

Unfortunatley I had neglected to check the brakes soon enough and allowed the piston on the o/s calliper to over extend.

I had a real game pushing the piston back and had to resort to considerable force (mallet and wood at one point - not good I know!!)

I now have an ABS & TC fault appearing and wonder whether thisi is more likely to be a dislodged/damaged sensor (which may have inadvertently got in the way of my 'piston return efforts') or a failed piston not functioning?.?

Anyone had any similar experience??

Any pointers?.?

Just put an old pad across the pistons and use a G clamp. More than likely sensor disturbed, push it back in until it touches reluctor ring. Pistons cannot cause message centre faults. Check continuity on sensor plug. If you have clipped a wire they should not be repaired. New sensor i am afraid.

Piston function won't cause a fault in the ABS system....unless you are braking on a loss surface and the other wheels are retarding but that one isn't and the ABS will try not to allow the other wheels to lock up in comparison to the unbraked wheel - even then it won't through a fault....

I would say you have dislodged a sensor - push them all the way home, they will regap themselves....

A plug into read the codes would be a good move too, but most common is a dodgy sensor.

It is much easier to produce the 'Tea Stain' as you call it - it is actually a Reinforced Main Spar Attachment washer - out of the more modern CFRP composite materials.

If the RMSA Washer was made from Duralumin, the item would need to be 3 times the size and weigh 5 times as much....

And if it weighed 5 times as much and the Main Spar has 18 of these fitted, then that equates to an increase in weight that would need to be offset by not loading as much coffee on board for the Flight Crews Coffee Machine - and I'm sorry after the memo that came round the other week about the distinct lack of coffee carrying capacity - or CCC as it known in the trade - I ain't gonna risk my job on Dural for no man!!
