Hi in removing the head to sort out my head gasket iv been told I need a special tool to hold the timing chain tensioner is is true or is there a way around it cheers phill

Yes it's true. Just follow the instructions in rave for reference tensioner.
It's just a pin, you should be able to make one from stiff wire.

Don't you have to use a hoo- jar to lock the cam aswell, or did I dream that ?

According to Cocker yes you do. But think that could be worked round.
