Hi everyone ,

I have a N registration P38 2.5 diesel , ( bmw ).
I have read all the treads and they have confirmed my own thoughts, that the pipe bringing the fuel from the lift pump to the system is damaged , the lift pump is serviceable. i have ordered the pipe as replacement of lift pump seems unnessasary .
also i was going to change the leak off pipes as there seems to be some fuel around one of the injectors.

has anyone got any drawings or step by step guide to removing the fuel tank safely and removing and re fitting of the pipe of the lift pump

And a long shot but does anyone fancy giving me a guiding hand ! i live in port talbot , south wales

happy driving everyone

just a quick one !!!

I have just popped the bonnet and looked closely , there are a few pools of fuel around the injectors ( probably the leak off pipes , would this cause air to circulate back to the fuel filter ? .

yes , the uptake pipe on the pump. but i have noticed a lot of fuel around one of the injectors , according to several posts , pipes around the injectors draw in fuel and circulate around which cause the air in the clear pipe from the fuel filter to the injector pump ? is this so

i think i will replace those firstly , seems a better idea to look at those to see if that cures , failing that i will replace the pipe of the lift pump

I have ordered the part from land rover to fit pump model ESR1111

thanks Tim

I'm not saying the pipe has failed, but I think you are guilty of blue sky thinking presuming it is the pipe not the pump. For the sake of £80 I would replace the pump whilst you have the tank dropped.

What are your symptoms? I take it you know the pump is working by some means?

Definitely replace the leak off pipes on the injectors in the meantime.

I am having similar starting issues- i am getting aerated fuel in the clear fuel line, so the pump is pumping the fuel- so pump is ok, but it is also pumping( sucking) air too, which could mean the pipe in side the pump could be split, but what is this part number or what size is the part?
Other than that has anyone manged to cut a hole in the floor pan so the pump can be changed from inside the car instead of dropping the tank parlava!?

right , here goes my checklist prior to making any drastic pump removal

1 , check the hoses around the non return valve ( mine was rotten )

2 , check all leak off hoses on the injectors

3 , check the fuel filter to ensure it is not drawing air

4 , check the inlet to the fuel filter to ensure the lift pump is functioning correctly

5 , if none of the above work and there is still air there , take it to a garage

6 , it still fails to start , burn it ! lol
