PLEASE
help me please!!!!!!!!
got up this mornpulled P38 forward so leaving room on drive
RR didnot start staright away as it normally does as i was in pyjamas dint think much of it
now ready to go out and it says gearbox fault when i try to turn the key
if carry on trying to turn it over we see airbad fault and alarm fault and inertia switch fault too.

the alarm fault has been on when i start up for one the week i have owned the RR, also there is the common passenger side central locking problem where the key fob will not open pas door but will work with pulling and pusing it
could this be the cause???? would the gearbox and other faults show up if battery is drained??????

i am no real mechanic but i did change the vacuum hoses the other day for the cruise control
this worked a treat and then the next time i drove it it packed in again

PLEASE HELP ME ASAP!!!!!!!!! cant go for my xmas dner

Usually the gearbox fault is caused by a poor battery. If you have had no other problems and this just showed itself today then I would say thats your problem. Especially if when you went to start the vehicle it was slow cranking etc. All the other faults shown on the message centre will probably be caused by the various ECU's etc not getting enough voltage from the battery. If the battery was already in a poor state and you moved the vehicle a few feet this morning and then turned it off again then you probably drained the last bit of juice out of the thing i guess...

Replace the battery would be my first thing to do.

Hope that helps and that you have a spare battery, getting stuck on today of all days must be horrible, hope you manage to sort it out...

Agree totally!
I had all the same readings comming up for a day or two, turns out alternator was to fault and not charging battery...Tel

Just to add....
I know its not ideal and just for info, but if you have taken a chance and drove it,,when mine went (96 DSE P38) It struggled to turn over but started..I got all the same messages but was in the position my Dad was following in his,so decided to head home..
Although over the journey (remember batt was very flat when i began) i lost nearly everything electrical i.e stuck in gear/all gauges/ brake lights and every warning up on the dash you can imagine..The car got me all the way home in traffic (proberly hour and half or so) and the engine never missed a beat..
I know its not ideal but desperate measures......

hi all
i have had the battery on charge for about 6 hrs and i got a start on the vehicle
have now left it overnight and hopefully we will get moving asap
obviously the battery was stuffed
Cheers everyone for the speedy info even on xmas day

Glad you got it going - I'd certainly agree that a knackered battery was to blame - causes all sorts of weird problems. The cold always picks out knackered batteries.

Look into battery problems on this forum before you change the battery - some people use those jump start things connected to the battery terminals whilst changing the battery to stop the electronics going haywire when the battery is changed - it can cause upset in the BECM and immobiliser problems when there is no power to it.
