This is the problem I've got, see how close it is to the pump housing..and loads of room to move..

Bit surprised Bosch is anything other than metric. Hot engine might help. Lots of Plusgas too but away from any rubber.
I'm sure it will be metric but spanners tend to be a reasonably loose fit so I thought if there was an imperial size in between it might give a more snug fit

Result..!! Thanks to everyone who helped here especially Mr Mark Piercy.. I had another go tonight as I was leaving rainbow puddles everywhere. I was a bit reluctant to start hitting a fuel pump with a hammer, but two taps with a sharp wood chisel and the whole thing broke its seal and came off with the 15/16" spanner.
For info, if anyone is thinking about doing this, there doesn't seem to be anything ready to jump out when it came off, the pump didn't need bleeding or resetting and with the battery back on, it fired up first time,(bit of a cough for a second, but works). Again thanks for everyone's advice, now just have to try not to think of the smallest car part I've ever bought for £120...ouch !!

As an update, two days and 150 miles later.. The truck seems to fly along now, starts better even hot. Could this have been a dodgy solenoid all along and didn't realise it.
