hello everyone!
2 weeks ago i fixed the starter in my p38 1996, but today, when i was trying to get it start today morning, i was shoked, because the car won't start..all the lights on the dashboard were ok,but it was like if the battrey was dead! but after two times of trying, the car fired ... tonight i was trying to get it start again, and the same problem happened... first try , second.. third ... at least the car fired... any idea please??! it could be the battery? or the starter relay solenoid??? or the starter itself??
reagrds.

Several possibilities, your starter fix didn't work whatever it was, the starter solenoid is shot, the cable from the battery to the starter has a bad connection or is corroded, the cable from the battery to the fuse box likewise, the fuse box itself is faulty, the relay or even the ignition key switch.

thanks datatek for your reply! but do i have to check all these possibilities??? today i went to my work ... and the car the strater didn't fire from the first time, but from the second or third!! is that happened with any one?? by the way , yesterday night, i turned on the a/c, and the interior lights became weak!!
hope get more suggestions before going to the technician!
regards.

by the way, what is the " starter solenoid" ? is it the unit where the cables are attched to the starter??

yes mate, check all cables are tight and corrosion free, check battery with a multi-meter if voltage is below 12 volts the battery is on its way out with engine running should be around 14.4 volts.

i really apreciate your reply clarkie... i took the my rangie 2 hours ago to the technician.. he told me that the problem may be in the fuse box.. he will check it tomorrow... nad i think, yes , i may check the battery voltage... because when i turned on the a/c, i recognized that the interior lights became weak... thanks anyway.

check all your earths, and battery connections clean them all including starter motor and alternator

hi roddy!! why the alternator?? is there a link between the starter and the alternator, can cause this kind of problem???

worth making sure it is charging properly (14.5 volts if it is too high 15.5 - 18v too high will cook battery among other problems) just worth cleaning up the connection. process of elimination.
