Disco 3 (LR3) P0046-00 (28) Error / hopefully resolved

So around midday I dosed myself up with tablets and managed to do a little bit

Getting that air intake pipe was a complete and utter @**#/-/*#;#;@/#*# having to push one end and pulling from the other , christ that was difficult

In the picture with the 2 x nuts and 1 x bolt, the far left bolt has stripped , has a welded nut on the back , think I may have to drill out the thread and see if I can get a short bolt and nyloc in there , holds an A/C pipe

Got the short turbo intercooler hose on, but looking at the pictures I think I need to undo the bottom clamp , move it slightly away from the turbo shield and push the clamp down a little bit , currently there all tight , didn’t go to mad as was worried of cracking the turbo outlet pipes

Then need to simply fit the scavenger pipe which shouldn’t be to bad to refit

Does anyone know where the front diff breather pipe attaches to the diff please as noticed it’s come off

So all in all I feel a very productive few hours , will have to leave it I think till the weekend as I’m absolutely crucified and my own fault but in agony

Will feel a lot happier once I’ve got the upper and lower cowl back on , hoses, then working on top of the engine

will let you know about breather tomorrow you can just spin the clamp a little, looks good though those pipes and all their bolts are a royal pain TY

awesome , as that’s what I also thought about spinning that clamp around a little bit and down , plus that broken bolt on the left hand side I got out so thinking as it’s just holding up an AC pipe of using a smaller bolt, has like a welded nut on the back of the bracket , is a M6 , think I’ve got some M4 bolts , along with a couple of penny washers and some nyloc nuts

that bracket was a royal pain as well because when I was trying to get the air inlet pipe in it kept catching on the bracket

will be so pleased once I’m able to get all this lower parts fitted , also have some plastic pipe that I used for the air suspension so womt be an issue utilising that for the diff breather pipe , doesn’t look in very good shape

at least I suppose that’s a little bit done , know it crucified me today , was mainly that inlet pipe trying to get it past everything

Hi front diff vent is at front left hand side cant get a useful picture, couple of shots if you google d3 front axle breather. Repair sounds good as long as its held firm not easy to remove bracket i usually find 8 or 10mm around the turbo brackets heat shields give me the most grief TY

Many thks for the info as very helpful , indeed that bracket is going to be a right sod to get to , can’t even place the nuts on the threads , will have to use some long nose pliers or maybe some tape on the nuts in a spanner in order to get them started

must admit currently in agony with my back and can’t hardly move due to trying to get that pipe in, hope I never have to mess around like that again

none the less feel I’ve hopefully started getting it back together be it slowly , fingers crossed I’ll be able to start again at the weekend , if I can get that bracket sorted out I’ll be pleased as that will allow my to slowly progress onto the rad cowl etc , but might sort out that axle breather first with the cowl out the way

No worries any time yes do those jobs with as much out of the way as possible i have a beer crate which i sit on when working under wheel arches rest up and take it easy TY

thks again, funny enough got one of those small mechanics seats on wheels as indeed really help

fingers crossed it’s nice this weekend and will see if I can get abit more done , I’ll indeed spend as much time as I need to ensure that awkward bracket is sorted out oh and just adjust that T clamp on the turbo

found that air line tubing just in case I need it when I inspect that axle breather pipe, thks again as found some videos regarding that

will be so nice to get the landy back on the road but think it will be another month , but at least then I’ll know it’s all been done properly

the joys of vehicle ownership, lol ,, thks again and also following ur thread with great interest

So worked out what I still need to get done

Undo and adjust t bolt clamp on turbo hose
Bolt- nuts for the bracket , options - run a tap through the thread or fit smaller nut and bolt , washers through existing nut hole
Try and work out how to get the 2 x new nuts back on, will have to use an UJ and think some grease to hold the nut whilst getting the nut started as virtually impossible getting ur hands on the thread
Sort out front axle breather
Refit lower and upper rad cowl
Refit fan
Refit TCM module
Refit throttle body Y assembly
Reconnect EGR pipes
Refit top air inlet pipe
Fit lower intercooler silicone hose
Test all the various sensors for the 5Vdc signal feed

Replace all the crumbling engine loom conduit

Hi running a tap seems the best option (if you can get to it) no worries will all be easier when you are up top again saw blacksmith this morning promised bits for tomorrow so hoping to get on this weekend all the best TY

thks mate and indeed hoping I can run a tap through it, bolt is a M6 , so also found a M4 with penny washers and a nylock nut just in case

can’t wait till I can finally start on the top as when I’ve finished with that bracket and new bottom silicone intercooler hose, I can then get the wheel arch liner back in , then finally drop it back on its wheels

even doing that will make life a lot easier when it’s also on its bump stops

So didn’t get much done but at least a very small amount of progress

Bracket , scavenger pipe , plus undone the t bolt bracket , rotated and dropped it down , refitted the axle breather on the diff

However I think looking at the picture I might need to remove that bottom T bolt clamp and replace it with a jubilee clip , need to make sure it’s 100% , will first turn it over so the bolt is furthest from the turbo casing and go from there , just not happy with it

Undone the earth points that the ECM uses , ordered some brushes for my dremel so I can clean the terminals and earth post , easier than trying to use some emery cloth

Next step will be to get the lower intercooler hose on, earth wires , then the inner wheel arch liner back in , got all new clips for that as well

At last I’ll then be able to move into the engine bay , starting with the lower rad cowl and securing the air inlet pipe

Hi Gary earth look like they needed a clean usually have paint on too. As long as your happy its sealed will keep you posted about other earths i thought there might be some the other side will post you some pics over next few days ready to lift motor finished lifting frame for now have a look at my thread Steve

many thks and indeed will give them more of a clean up , also think I’ll put some coppaslip onto the earth post , I think that post is the same one that sits behind the fuse box, looks around the same vicinity

yes please , what ever earth post u find il be very grateful to u , what do u think about putting some coppaslip onto that earth post , seeing it’s hidden behind the plastic wheel arch liner

also taking about that T bolt clamp on the turbo, I’ve found another wide jubilee clip as I think that T bolt clamp is sitting on the turbo flange , there’s 6mm difference between them, just feel the jubilee clip will give a better seal , yeh i know , I need to get out more for being so fussy, lol

Indeed think I’m going to replace that T bolt clamp with the narrower jubilee clip as really think that other one is too wide and clamping down on the turbos pipe lip

at the end of the day I’ll be over the moon when it’s back on it’s wheels , at least then , it will also be a lot easier to work on the ECM/ TCM etc

once it’s all done want to fit an oil and turbo gauge , alas though don’t know where the best place will be to fit them

May i pick ur brains plse , have found it’s impossible getting the lower silicone intercooler hose onto the metal pipe whilst fitted to the disco , got a spare pipe but even that took me ages getting the hose on but just about managed it , but impossible on the disco due to restricted access

The old black pipe goes on extremely easy , really want to get the silicone hose on

Have measured the insides and the silicone one is around 3mm smaller and wondering if there’s a way of maybe shaving off some of the insides of the hose

Even had to use some hot water to get the silicone hose on that pipe , currently don’t stand a chance getting the pipe on the disco itself

Really don’t want to order another silicone hose if I can help it , this one is made by s **tpart , bloody typical they can’t even get a pipe right and thought it was an Allisport

Apologises being a pain asking but just wondered if I could use a Stanley knife or maybe a grinding wheel attached to the dremel, just want to take off a few layers off inside

Hi, is it worth leaving the silicone hose on your spare pipe for a few days & maybe using hot water or hair dryer to try & re-form it ?
