All the information on the OWUT is being collected here https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/vcu-torque-test-results.109486/page-43.Is this a new episode of this argument or a repeat?
Getting harder and harder to tell as I get older and more befuddled.
On the contrary we want as much information as possible. The worser the betterYou wouldn't want mine....
Cheater! When a bought it I couldn't move the back wheel with a breaker bar. Now it takes no seconds as the drive shafts and diff are out.
As I said......
The argument has been going on for years. There's always some crank ready to tell us the myths like LR stating the vcu should be replaced as per their service list schedule, when they don't. LR don't supply vcu's when they do. Reconners know the exact spec of a new vcu when they don't. They must be replaced at 70k miles when many have found it failed long before this. The 70k mile myth came from the same source as the FL2 haldex will fail at 40k miles myth... Imagine how annoying it is for those who have spent a lot of time on this only for the cranks to pull it all apart.Indeed.
Seriously though, this argument is driving me nuts. I can only stand a few days on here before the bickering makes me flee for the sake of my sanity. After a couple of weeks I come back and the same old squabble back. Again.
Buy a freelander. Test it, don't test it. OWUT or reversing. If you own the car then you are an adult and you can make your own mind up.
You'll get splinters in yer arse sittin up there on that fence. Thanks for posting the comparison dfossil - very useful thanks!
The OWUT seems like a very straightforward and practical test of the VCU (with limitations of measuring via wheel bearings, differential and prop support bearings). I would see that the reverse test is probably one to take on purchasing a vehicle - it may not be practical to undertake a OWUT on a car you're about to buy unless you have a sympathetic seller! Equally, the reverse test may be something you can subconsciously "do" everytime you manoeuvre the car.
As has been said the tests are complimentary. And I think that is all I am going to say about it... (having read all the arguments over the last few months and having made my own mind up!)
Yer not the first to do the test with bits missing only to wonder why. I've had a number of pm's over the years about this. When a bought it I couldn't move the back wheel with a breaker bar. Now it takes no seconds as the drive shafts and diff are out.
As I said......
What fence? You'll get splinters in yer arse sittin up there on that fence.
