Thanks easye1! I was thinking of raising the roofline, but in the future i want to fit a roof tent also so wanted to keep the weight lower down. before then i shall be extending the A Frame at the front to equalise the balance a little more!
My mate is a professional welder - i decided to get him to do the structural parts ... dont want my hobby welding being the reason it disassembles itself somewhere in the wilds of Scotland!!!
I have a new thread going for anyone that will want to follow the progress... check this link on the 4x4overlandtravel forum... http://www.4x4overlandtravel.com/t1650-offroad-caravan#14450

Thanks MarkL
that is similar in the idea, although i am having the windscreen and side windows (door tops). My base is also a sankey trailer so the draw bar will not be an issue when offroad, plus i have a 360deg rotating hitch so i can roll it over comfortably!!! ;)

she is coming on! The aim is to have it watertight and painted at least before the Bristol and West show. It will be on the Cheshire Land Rover Club stand if anyone is interested!

Ooh, this is meant to be constructive criticism .. but the axle looks too far forward to the load carrying area. Didn't spot it in the first frame pics you put up and I still like it, but I'd prefer the axle to be further back to add stability.

Axle needs to move back

i agree on the axle. once built the a-frame is being extended for a gas / battery box on the front. also, there is no weight being loaded aft of the axle. fore of the axle will be the batter and gas, water and other stuff. the bed etc will also be 60% fore of the axle leaving only the trailer weight behind. I have taken it for a test run up to 55mph and it is as stable as a stable thing...
