Hello I've just bought a 4.6 hse autobiography 97 plate it is a petrol and automatic. It over heated after about 30 mins driving so the garage changed the thermostat and it boiled up again.
So they then changed the water pump and again it boiled up.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Unless you plan on handing back the car....probably radiator is partially blocked - either someone mixed coolants (what colour do you have now?) or it got filled full of sealant which blocked up the galleries. Was it over-heating on the open road or while standing/ in urban traffic? Make sure the coolant level is properly topped up, and bled though

Thanks for the reply its got red coolant at the moment, not sure if any sealant has been added sometime previous.
It ticks over just fine but over heats after about 30 mins driving.

remove the overflow pipe from the radiator then fill the header tank then squeeze the top hose and plug the overflow with a finger when releasing the hose so it sucks coolant in and blows air out when you squeeze the hose. Keep doing that until coolant comes out of the overflow (it'll take a while and you'll need to top the header up a few times). Then put the pipe back on and carry on only this time plug the hole in the top of the header where the jet of coolant comes back into the header. Eventually, you'll no longer be able to hear bubbles in the system and at that point you know you've got the air out.

Thanks for the reply i will try that this evening and see how it goes .

Better still, follow the LR procedure. Always works for me. (The red text is my addition !!)

RAVE says :-

Refill
8. Ensure sufficient coolant solution is available.
See LUBRICANTS, FLUIDS AND CAPACITIES, Information.
9. Inspect radiator drain plug ’O’ ring, renew if required.
10. Fit drain plug to radiator. Tighten to Max 6 Nm (4 lbf.ft)
11. Remove safety stands. Lower vehicle.
12. Disconnect radiator bleed hose at the radiator.
13. Blow through hose to clear any residual coolant. Then Reconnect hose.
CAUTION: If radiator bleed hose is not cleared of coolant, air may become trapped at top of radiator during refill, leading to subsequent engine overheating.
14. Fill expansion tank until coolant is level with base of neck.
15. Start engine, continue filling at expansion tank until coolant level stabilises at the ’COLD LEVEL’ marking.
16. Run the engine until the thermostat opens (top hose becomes warm).
Keep squeezing the top hose radiator hose to encourage air bubbles through the system.
Check for coolant flowing out of the bleed hose into header tank
.
17. Stop engine, allow to cool.
18. Check coolant level, top-up as necessary.
19. Refit expansion tank filler cap.
