overheating td4 freelander

Hi i am new to this forum thing but i am after some advice. My landrover Freelander TD4 has just overheated and lost power. It suddenly lost all power and temp went into red. I stopped and the fan was on full. It cooled to normal the coolant was a litle low so i topped it up. Started the car up again and it drived home ok . Any ideas.
