overheating loosing coolant from expansion tank

hi ive just purchased a freelander 2002 1.8 petrol its loosing coolant from the expansion tank, I only drove 15 miles and nearly all coolant was gone, there are no split pipes or leaks when I refill it only when I drive it from a to b any help would be appreciated thanks phill

I would suggest you get a sniff test done, freelander petrol engines like to eat head gaskets, a sniff test will identify if there are any exhaust gasses present in the coolant.

ok tried that thanks for your non help I knew the head gasket had gone
