Overheating issues

Someone please help, going mad about this. Had to drain down my defender 200tdi because a hose split. Since filling it up it goes straight to the H on the dial within a few minutes of running even though the engine is barely warm.

Have replaced
The radiator
The water pump
Thermostat
Temp sender

The pipes either side of the water pump and up near the cooler box are hot, not bpilimg but hot. The pipe into the top of the radiator gets hot, the pipe from the bottom of the radiator never really gets hot.

After a days off roading it did go back to normal. Then I had to drain it down again to replace the freeze plugs, since then it's gone back to constantly saying it's overheating

Hope someone can help as I'm at my wits end with it

Check cable continuity between sender and gauge. it might be shorted to earth.

Thanks, will give that a go. Electrickery isn't really my strong suit but could I also test this by running a new cable direct from the sender to the gauge?
Or is there a reason this wouldn't work?

Problems with old landy temp gauge's is common. Fit an after market cappilary gauge that reads in numbers degrees and know what the temp is. [ no electrics involved except the light.]

As Tottot says, capppiliary all the way, ebay search Tim cappiliary gauge, 30 quid Iirc.

Did you just fill it via the header tank or did you do it the proper way?

sounds like air in the system if one hose hot and one cold as Lynall said did you do it the proper way
