Hi,
Series 3, 1975, 2.25L petrol engine, over heating.

She overheated earlier in the year, leading to a thermostat being fitted ( she didn't already have one) the radiator being replaced and the head gasket/ exhaust valves being replaced. She's been running fine since, done about 500 miles ( she's not my daily drive). Suddenly today she's overheating again. Did a 40min trip @ 60 on the motorway, stopped to meet friends for a few hours. On the way back within 15 mins of starting the temp needle is right up just touching 'H'. I've topped up the water in the expansion tank, and checked the fan is working. What else can I do?

Step 1 - ensure it is actually overheating and not just a sender issue (they are sensitive to voltage changes and therefore bad earths).

Step 2 - check the thermostat is opening and radiator working - i.e. top pipe hot and bottom cold

Was the water level low when you topped it up. Is there a possibility of an air lock in the system.
No water travelling around would also make the heater blow cold air as a check whilst driving.
As for checking the sender is it poss to remove, make sure its earthed a drop it in some hot water like checking a thermostat?
