Seems like me Freelander 2 is having a few issues...first the suspension on the rear failed.....new front pads and disc needed and now when I brake the revs go up slightly...not a lot but noticeable....I’m holding my breath hoping it won’t be anything too bad, anybody have any ideas....not expensive ones hopefully, it’s a Freelander 2 2010 with an automatic box 114000 and had it’s 10yr service last year.

Could it be a leak in the brake servo. I know with petrol engines it leans out the mix which increases the revs but I dont know how it works with diesels so just a thought.

Try clamping off the vacume pipe to the brake servo see if it still does it? (Obviously dont leave it clamped off)
Ok thanks, looks like I will have to take it someplace to get looked at, anybody know a good place nr norwich not too expensive as I've lost hours at work due to this covid stuff

Update to my problem, I have noticed it only happens when I’m braking from speed ie...60+..the Rev counter drops to around 1000 then just jumps to around 1500 then back down...engine sound stays the same..no increase...not seen it happen at lower driving speeds yet.

Does your rev counter pick up it's signal from the alternator ?
Good question....I have no idea...I will investigate...I guess if it does do that then the alternator is at fault?

Sounds like the box is dropping of TC lock under braking, which is quite normal.

The engine management system runs the whole show, taking the engine speed and position off the crank position sensor.
No, it's pretty normal for the TC to unlock under braking.
