hey
just had a 200tdi convertion on my defender 90, and already there is a problem.
the engine is over heating was around 3/4 when i stoped drivign it but am sure it would have gone hotter. Also i noticed that the glow plug was coming on then goign off while driving. Could there just be a air bubble in coolant or something more serois?

Did you change the temperature sender or the temp display - they are different on a 200 to a td and will show normal running temp as just below the red. If not, best get a new dial.

Dunno bout the glow plug - might be a short somewhere?

As "odenne" has said the temp sender for the 200Tdi has to be change for the one out of the old TD engine.

Did you wire up the glow plug relay? I did not bother on mine just connected the old TD glow plug lead to number 4 plug. Mine works fine like that but will get round to the relay later, so sounds like a bare wire shorting somewhere.

cheers guys, going to have a look after my dinner see if i can find wire shorting anywhere, as for tdi temp gauge where best place to get one ebay?

Temp sender for TD is at the back of the head near the heater pipes and for the TDi at the front near the thermostat.

Before i changed mine the temp went from cold right round to boiling after the change sits just at the end of the white section, but then again my rad looks a bit suspect, need to change that soon, think its blocked a bit.

Sounds like the problem I was having when I had a 200tdi fitted. The radiator was blocked and it over heated. Head was warped and I had to have 5thou skimmed off of it. It's running great now but it has no thermostat in it. See what happens when it has a stat fitted.
