Hi I am Peter ex Cummins
Done a rebuild V6 2,7 diesel-out of body. Suprisingly a few mountains to climb.
1 Hi pressure fuel pump solenoid valves receive + supply but earth returns to ECU seem dysfunctional.
2 Squirt to injectors timing out.
3 Autotrans module not communicating
4 handbrake fault.
Otherwise can crank , no dtc's.
If we can get this to work there are some good advantages

I cant see where the earth returns go from the hi press fuel pump solenoids go - I need to check earth return connectivity. If I provide eart I get full hi pressure - without none.

Hi @cummins

the earth point for the abs module should be on the front drivers side , there are other earths behind the drivers side headlight also , next to the abs module its tucked up where the pipes are near the A pillar inside the engine bay

other ones are front passenger side behind the wheel arch liner, these are used by the suspension and TCM and ECM

also an easy way to test grounds are

Turn the ignition on. Measure the voltage between the grounding point and the negative battery terminal. Vdc should be lower than 0.2 Vdc

also included canbus testing for u

With both battery leads disconnected from the battery posts

Multimeter set to ohms, ( TP Is just short for test probe from ur multimeter )

TP to pin 6 other TP to pin 14, read ohms TP to pin 3 other TP to pin 11, read ohms

Reconnect battery, ign off , meter set to Vd

TP to pin 6 other TP pin 4 Read Vdc

TP to pin 6 other TP to pin 5 Read Vdc

TP to pin 14 other TP to pin 4 Read Vdc

TP to pin 14 other TP to pin 5 Read Vdc

‘TP to pin 6 other TP to pin 14 read Vdc

plse Note the wiring is for a LHD so easy to just think of them the other side

hope this is helpful

Before I forget other places to double check are behind the rear wheel passenger side , there are 3 x connectors

also when u have the front passenger side wheel arch liner out there are another 3 x connectors that lead to the one above

hope that also helps u

I can't see an easy way of getting the engine to run out of the vehicle. The ECM needs to commute with multiple other modules in the vehicle to initiate injection. The ECM provides the ground to the pump solenoids, doing so by PWM to regulate rail pressure.
Getting the HP solenoid to hold is minor compared to getting the ECM to be happy enough to start injection.
For the time and effort involved, just put the engine back in the vehicle to test it. Starting it out of the vehicle proves nothing except that it runs. No realistic dyno testing can take place unless you have a stand alone ECM to run the thing, which is of little benefit once the engine is back in the vehicle, as the factory ECM will be calibrated differently.

I think you can get stand alone ecus to run the 2.7 and 3.0 v6s, but they are serious money.

Thanks for that but it is wired up to the car harness so i am using the car ecm etc.

But tell me more how you can adapt the volume control solenoid valve. For instance if my high pressure pump is low can the opening size of this valve be adjusted by changing the pulsed voltage supply to the valve to help starting time? Also can you tell me about the other solenoid valve that deals with pressure in the rail. I guess it functions as a shut down valve dumping rail pressure to shut down, also acting as a max pressure relief dump- does it do anything else?
