As title guys.

1/ What should a 2.5DSE be ticking over at when warm? According to the Tacho it's about 800 RPM However my ears reckon it's closer to 1000 RPM. Any easy way of checking tacho accuracy? Or is it just that 6pots sound busy?

2/ What engine speed should the autobox lock up at?

Tia.
Martin. :)

750 +/- 50rpm. Check with diagnostics. It sounds busy. Torque convertor lock up occurs at just over 50mph.

Thank you. :) Got to get it booked in next month for Fluids and filters change. I'll get it plugged in and checked at the same time. Lock up is fuctioning OK.

The only reason I ask is going from a 4.0 litre yank tank with a ferociously grippy auto box to the P38 is a bit like going from shark infested waters to a garden pond. The P38 seems sooooo languid. :D

Torque convertor has too much slip. Ashcroft's do an uprated one.

It is busy cos theres 2 extra bangs per revolution
Its a 6 cylinder so at 800rpm=4800 bangs which will sound alot like a 4 cylinder at 1000rpm=4000 bangs +/- 50rpm each way
You must have a good ear

The 2.5 deisel is abit lazy! you should have got the 4.6 v8 that would punch the shark on the nose

Too many years with my head stuck in engine bays I expect. :)

My Jeep does the punchy stuff better power weight than the 4.6 108 BHP/Ton vs 101 but lacking in Torques 222 vs 280. Lazy is OK for now :D

That's the company, you need to look for the uprated P38 diesel version.

I will seek it out. :)
