The last time England won the Ashes...........

Kylie and Jason had just got married on Neighbours

That was 19 years ago.

Whats your memories of those halcyon days driving
around in your Landy trying to listen to a ball by ball
account on Radio 4 or the BBC World Series? Or
god forbid, are you the result of a celebratory bonk
by your parents!!

Or possibly that you don't give a toss now and didn't 19 years ago?
Sometimes I think I'm the only person in Australia who has no interest in
sport!

Possibly, but unlikely - did we win between 1940 and 1980? ;-)

Err... 1984? I'd have been a spotty 4th former then.

I didn't give a flying wossname then, either (about Jason and Kylie or
some scorched bit of cricket stump).

You could only listen to commentary on the radio or read about it in
the press - and that's were most of us will be back to next year. That's
progress!!

I was 32, working in Brigg, Lincs (it was S Humberside then, I think) -
hello David Bell!

Riding either a Guzzi V50, a Yam 350 YPVS or XT350 (not sure - bike years
are a bit hazy). One small daughter (graduated this year!). Another one
not far off. Never had a Landy - spent all my time dodging the farmers'
Land Rovers on the Lincs lanes. Quite fancied one - at some point.

Several things about to happen in the next 10 years that I'm glad I didn't
know about then. Wish I hadn't started thinking about this.

No you're not - at least one other person here that does not see what's
exciting about hitting a ball and getting sunstroke (when played here) or
rusted out (when played in Pommieland) :)

19 years ago I was driving a morris marina estate; living in London and not
earning enough. Actually... I'm not convinced I was - I might have sold the
marina by then, in which case I had a little fiat 127 company van.

A Morris Marina - oh my god. Getting the Fiat 127 must have seemed like
Xmas.

Mine was a 1.8, not a bad ol' heap. It'd cruise at 90 on the motorway,
provided you didn't object to about 20 mpg.

Mine was a 1.8 too. Handling, noise, performance, refinement were similar
to a Russian saloon I was once lent as a courtesy car while my 2CV was
undergoing repair (Voskhod?). In other words, dog rough. Although that
wasn't the issue. It was the total lack of style. In fact, I think BL
managed to get style as a negative quantity in that car. Actually less cool
than walking.
