Bought the wife a Touareg 2.5 Tdi sport SE. Superb car & a truly awesome mile eater, but with only 400m
on the clock on the way to France on holiday a couple of weeks ago it stuck in 6th gear (auto box) &
basically fried the box on the M1. I was well happy with this as you can imagine. So I called VW
assistance & they came in 20 minutes (good stuff!) & plugged in his laptop only to tell me it was fecked!
I expected a replacement car & on my way etc. No way Hose! You cant take hire cars out of the country &
they didn't have Touareg anyway!

I have a Touareg full to capacity & they want me to have a golf, they got told to shove it. I rang the
dealers after four hours of hassle, they where shockingly bad at first until I got the main man from the
Leeds dealer (we got from Huddersfield) He sorted it & got one of his cars down to us (another two hour
wait!) It didn't have sat nav & we had no maps with us (yeah, I know!)

That was the start of a very poor holiday indeed, it got a LOT worse than the car, but it was a major
headache at the time!

I wasn't actually angry about the thing breaking down, all thing mechanical do break down, even VW's!!
But I was angry at the way I was treat by VW assistance & the dealer.

So, It's not just LR!!!

Try dealing with "Calterdon BMW" in Inverness - the most shockingly
appalling experience I have ever had with a dealer! "We've banked your dosh,
sir, so kindly FECK ORF" springs to mind!! Gave me a bloody renault clio
or a rover 200 (both well old and well thrashed) as a courtesy car when I
forced them to do warranty work on my 5-series!!!!!! ****ers. Finally forced
them to take their crap car back and give me a full refund, 4 months after
purchase.

Exactly the same experience with Lister Park BMW (Mini) in bradford.

I had a Cooper S for 6 months, it was off the road for 27 days of that 6 months!!

Customer service was shocking! They got that one back too!

Funnily enough, I still bought another bimmer, a 330dSE, from menzies in
Stirling. Total contrast, apart from the stuck-up spotty little bitch on the
reception desk that needed a good smack to remind her who was paying her
wages, everyone treated you like you actually had a right to breathe the
same air as them! Very helpful, even though the car was back to them a good
few times, and every time the courtesy car was another 3 series - always
newer than mine!!
I saw sense eventually and bought a DiscoII 4.0V8, had it 2 1/2 months and
had one easily fixed snag with an SRS light, so hopefully no more dealers to
try and deal with ever again! Might even buy a testbook for the workshop
now......

May I get something of my chest which is a little on topic and may help
reduce any ulcer progression.. I'm normally mild mannered and let things
wash over me because life is far to short, however I would like to say to
Max at Landrover in Bayonne (Southern west coast of France near
Biaritz )..... Don't avoid multiple phone calls from the Caravan club (my
vehicle breakdown cover agents) because your too busy with a client. What he
didn't expect was that I was so titsed off it had taken 3 days to fit 1 wire
from a fuse box to the coil that I was stood behind the wazock who was
supposedly too busy whilsy he played with a scooter in the work shop. They
already knew the coil wasn't producing a spark so it's hardly rocket
science.

I can however testify to the excellent accoustics of their joint Landrover /
Jaguar and Ferrari show room as a ranted like a deranged Englishman in front
of several rather bemused customers who no doubt understood my feedback
rating system. :0) Seems I got Max's attention and my car was fixed and
sorted. After I finished ranting I remembered I was still on my mobile too..
to a chap at the Caravan club who was also relishing the moment as much as I
was.

What do these wazzocks get out of messing people around? This was the first
French idiot and Only French Idiot in the 40 Days thus far I've spent over
there.

Ahhhhhh....and breeeath..... so... how long does stuff stay on the internet
for everyone to read again?

I'd like to thank Neil and Lois at the Caravan club while I'm at it who
moved heaven and earth to keep my Holiday on track.

And for the benifit of any French Landrover owners ....

******

Ahhhhhh. ...and breeeath. .... si... le séjour de chose comment long sur
l'internet pour tout le monde lire encore ?

J'aimerais remercier Neil et Lois au club de Caravane pendant que je suis à
lui qui s'est déplacé le ciel et la terre pour garder mes Vacances sur la
piste.

retranslating it is fun:

I must admit that Altwoods BMW of Old Windsor (previously of Slough) have
always treated us as human beings and equals, their Service staff are
excellent. Seeing the face of a young man who had just bought his Mini One
in for it's first service as he was shown his BMW 318i courtesy car was
superb, and they actually apologised that it wasn't another Mini. :)

I think *there*'s the reason for the delay. They were waiting for a
translator to make sense of your "French" phraseology, they must have been
trying to prevent themselves from falling round laughing at the equivalent
of a rambling Glaswegian on Tennents super + speed )

I've tried on three separate occasions to buy a BMW. The first time
was for a 5 Series but he wouldn't shift £15 / month on the contract
hire to match Jaguar, so they lost the business (and then tried to get
it back - how I laughed).

About 4 months ago Mandy was very close to buying a convertible - Audi
was highly rated but the salesman was so 'non-pushy' he failed to
close the deal, despite us asking 'how much', 'when' etc! BMW
promised a test drive, promised a call back etc etc. Still waiting.

Then a few weeks back I went to look at the new 3 series. No
brochures available (for the biggest selling car in the UK), no test
drives and, frankly sir, we don't think you can afford one.

The new 330d looks pretty spectacular though. But I won't be buying
it from Wakefield BMW in a thousand years...

I knew someone would do this! Thanks for the laugh. It reminds me of the
stickers all over a Honda I used to own. "Please not to applying brakes do
in times of wet weather, brakes not guaranteed to work hopefully" or
something.
