OS getamap site for finding lanes?

Is it possible? it has the solid green dots on lanes which are BOATS i think? cant find a legend on the site, it seems like its the same layout as the orange OS maps. using it purely because it saves me time buying the maps and browsing a pile of them and finding nothing and wasting money.

im in merseyside, are the are any areas i can look through that arent far away? would happily drive up to an hour away. dont need lanes, would gladly find them myself. Plus i know how you all feel about them :behindsofa:

The dots are ORPA's .. Other Routes with Public Access and are supposed to have been superceded by BOAT's .. Byways Open to All Traffic.

Unfortunately this hasn't happened anywhere near as quickly, easily or as comprehensively as I, you and all of us including the government .. Hence the need to continually check the legality of most lanes, especially those you 'find' just by using a map!

Just 'cos it's on the map doesn't mean it's either still there, driveable or legal to drive.

so they are, i am seeing a lot of dotted lines with pink diamonds along, they are shorted dashes in the lines not long ones like a bridleway, can i drive any of these? pic attached

they're longdistance footpaths

they're int a single lane on that map other than the yellow roads.

NO!!

Short dashed lines are footpaths, Long dashed lines are Bridlepaths, Diamonds are National trails and are NOT to be driven .. they're usually walking trails. Something like the Tissington trail on an old railway and bridlepath or footpath status mostly.

ok, thought so. what are the yellow tracks on the key as less than 4m wide like? are they usable as lanes or are they still tarmacked?

Yes, they're 'supposed' to be tarmaced, but in many places they're also unfenced (as in the one going across the middle) and unkempt .. There are also white roads drawn in a similar way, they can be better lanes than some Byways ..

I use getamap to search for lanes as it gives you the grid reference if you mark a certain point,then when I've got the 2 references (start/finish point) I contact the relevant council to see if its still open to vehicles,9 out of 10 times there not

Try this site... it shows you lanes and their current status (well, depending how up to date they keep it, but, it's a good start)

Either link will tell you what you can and cant drive.

But remember you cant just find these lanes and presume there ok to drive. You absolutely MUST get in touch with the ROW officer to check first.

I heard that even lastest os maps can still be out of date. Heard they have a legal duty to update the OS map within 5 years of a road status changing

quite a long time really if they chose to drag their heels over it
