Get underneath and have a look at your caliper and see if you have a thin cable with a small plug on it - if you have this then you have the sensor type pad

if you dont connect the brake pad wires there will be a light on the dash
check one of the drivers side calipers for 2 black wires, one that is earthed to the axle, if you have them then you need to get the right pads

I thought the light came on when it was short circuit, not open circuit?

Also - would this be one disc or a pair? Theres 2 in the pic

With ref to the brake pad, with or without wire, you could go for the wired option if your not sure, only be pence in the cost, or should be, if you dont need the wire, cut it off, wont harm the pads...
