Optimill front door hinge's, worth the money ?

Hi all, my landy was in for a gearbox and transfer box oil change today and my mechanic said I need new hinges, it’s a 110 van with the later style front doors, the question is are they worth the expense?

It’s a lot of dosh for what they are. There’s someone doing hinges with greasers fitted which would be a good idea

How's he got time to inspect the hinges if he's changing the oil
Have they dropped so the door latch is hitting the anchor on the door pillar?

I know how naughty of him to point out my droopy hinges, they need changing and he’s our family mechanic who’s nuts about Land Rovers bless him

What's wrong with fitting OE hinges? Mine have lasted 140,000 miles and are still fine.

l do oil them from time to time, but unsure if the oil actually gets to the hinge pin.

I'm think these hinges are more for security purposes due to the cost. Though, as @Def90man stated, an added grease fitting would be nice for the outrageous price.
If your doors are rusted to h3ck I wouldn't get those hinges as no one would nick rotted doors anyway. lol

The oe hinges are ok but not brilliant, you can buy the ones with grease nipples which I love the idea of but they are not much less money than the optimill ones and still just as easy to Nick the doors as the original ones, my land rover has the sought after one piece doors in very good condition so would like the idea of extra security

Optmill hinges are great but you don't NEED them, you just have to LIKE and WANT them (and I speak as someone who has them F&R on my 90).

Great thanks for the reply, I think I may go with them to be honest, they look really well made how long have you had them yourself?

I fitted them in 2015.
In 2017 I then fitted the matching door-handles (well, it would be rude not to).

Like I said, you don't NEED them but if you can't treat yourself from time to time.......

Good to no thank you, exactly the security bit is what draws me to them, id prefer the grease nipples ones but the security aint any better than it is now, I’ve emailed them because my defender is a worker bee, so both front doors are opened and shut all day everyday many times and was curious if they are up to this sort of usage

I am looking at the Optimill door hinges for additional security. My beloved Margaret was violated Wednesday night. They got away with two doors. They were interrupted so one door was still in place but damaged and the third door is trashed when it was thrown at us when we interrupted them. I was the proud owner of original doors in fabulous condition. They will be replaced under insurance with new genuine ones but I want to protect them and not put poor Margaret through this distressing experience again.

Shame you didn't have a shotgun with you and you could have tested the resilience of a Land Rover door when used as a shield

Would the bomb proof door hinge inserts (£30) not be effective at slowing thieves down?

Agree with this one, just fit standard, and splash out on stainless fixings. that way when you need to change them again in another 100k miles they will come out rather than need drilling.

does that just stop the door being able to be pulled outwards in the event the hinges are unscrewed from the bulkhead?
