Opinions on electric paint sprayers?

With the first whiff of Spring in the air my mind is turning to all those jobs I've been putting off for years - one of which is a respray. I should point out that the original 34 year old paint is so oxidised that it almost has a matt finish, and comes off as a fine dust when you wipe a finger across it. The roof is down to the undercoat in places. I'm too mean to pay for a professional job, and like the speed/ease and finish I get when air brushing models.
So - has anyone tried painting a tratter with an electric airbrush - this kind of thing?

I looked into them when I was looking at info about respraying mine. The info I found said they were unsuitable for 2K paint, so I didn’t bother.

If your intending to use something like coach paint, then I can see them being ok.

Thanks for that. I'll be painting outside, coach paint looks like a good option. I'll probably keep the same colour - painting another coat of white on top of the old one, so that should make things easier too.

I use 1 for general house paint and find that you have to thin a lot but does give good results with emulsion after a couple of coats.
Never tried with car paint. But would think not.
Could you not hire a compressor for the weekend for that cost?
There are also many guys on here who hand paint and get extremely good results

Thanks marjon. I was hoping of course for someone to come on and say "yes they are great". Looks like a brush and roller job then. I'll start with the roof, only tall people will see the results!

I not saying it wouldn’t but the amount you have to thin the paint is what got me, it ends up almost water.
Not sure a car based paint would give a good finish like that.
And as you have now said you will do it outside. I wouldn’t try and if you did you better hope you don’t have any other cars near

.
That’s not to say somebody hasn’t done it and got good results so hang in there, I have the luxury of a compressor and a big enough garage.
