Hi, not as easy as the title sounds. My tailgate wont open at all, the button seems to be hard to push. Just wondering if you can get in without climbing over the back seats and stripping theback of the tailgate off. The corners will slightly lift if you yank them but wont pop open. Is it worth me yanking the crap out of the corners? Or best to climb over the back?

Could be it's still locked. It won't unlock unless the drivers door is unlocked. I only found this out when the unlock solenoid in the drivers door failed. I was plipping the other doors open but the tailgate stays locked. Operating the drivers door with the key unlocked the tailgate. I don't know offhand whether it's a seperate contact for this or the BECM just looks at the normal unlocked signal.

The switch which is clipped on the back of the button can get clogged with water and ****e. Unfortunately only solution is to fold back seat(s) down and crawl into the load space to release the edge fasteners on the lower tailgate carpeted panel. Added problem is the plastic hinged "Bridge" which will be in the up position. However with care and cursing the panel comes off and access to the pushbutton securing screw is easy. You can pull the plug off the end of the pushbutton switch and link the two pins out to operate the release solenoid. It will pay to remove the pushbutton, dismantle and clean it together with the switch. Apply silicone grease to the spring and internal sliding faces and give the switch mechanism a good shot of WD40. Check the condition of the sealing rings and replace if missing or damaged (Cheap). Reassemble and confirm operation of switch with a multimeter before refitting. Should take you about an hour all in.
