I have no idea where it is though, luckily it isn't obvious.

I am glad it all ended so well for you. A similar situation a few years ago in Abergwesyn (near where I live in Wales) with, I believe a group from Kent, did not end so well and a young passenger lost her life. It happens so easily and so quickly.

No apology necessary Sue. Everyone must be dying to know where it is. Hopefully we recover it and everything inside. Not that there's anything of mega value inside, but it could be of sentimental value and that could be priceless to Paul,

The scary thing is, this a ford on a tarmac road as was intimated, not just some rutted track, so any clueless motorist in a normal car could have suffered a worse fate.

Laughing at the different attitudes .. everyone's concerned, for which I'm thankful, but in the pm's I received the men focus mostly on the Landy, recovery and taking the ****, the women focus on me, getting to the doctor, and keeping warm!

anyone in a normal car wouldn't be crazy enough too try it?

We should all treat this as a warning, I was there the ford did not look that bad it could have happened to any of us just happened that Paul was in front, the outcome is bad enough but could have been a lot worse.
Sometimes I think we feel invincible in a 4x4, But it can turn from havin a laugh to life threating in a split second.

When I come to that situation again if not 100% sure I will stick it in reverse and live to play another day. I hope you all do the same.

On a lighter note I have posted what happened on other forums as a warning, had loads of people who don’t know me or Paul willing to help with recovery sure we could have a 4x4 convention while we recovery Pauls landy.

It's a very deceiving ford as it drops sharply into the bottom but if the levels high you have no idea how deep it is unless you know it well. Really needs a depth mark on it as said before it could have been anyone

I'll keep you updated later but I'll only share pics with Paul until it's recovered as I'm one of the few that know the area well enough

Been to the doctors, antibiotics prescribed, all looks and sounds Ok, standard sore throat stuff .. nowt to worry about.

Not giving any more clues as to whereabouts of the ford ..

As David said, please, if you do know where it is, don't post it. Hopefully we can get the Landy back reasonably intact. We have a team almost ready to recover it, if you haven't heard yet from Myself or TopCat, please don't be offended, the people we have, have serious kit and experience .. and we can't have too many people attending, not least because there simply isn't room!!

The offers for help have been overwhelming, I can't believe your generosity but in all honesty we couldn't possibly use everyone that has offered to be there, the road would be full for a hundred yards or more, and the actual recovery wouldn't be logistically possible!! So many thanks to you all, can't express my gratitude enough!

Again, please, no further speculation on actual location .. pictures will follow ..

Cheers mate .. glad to know (Ha, wish i'd knew earlier) that there _is_ a drop and it wasn't just me .. it felt like the roadway had been washed away from under me!!

Still doesn't stop me feeling like a numpty mind ..

Yes but everyone makes mistakes. I'm usually quite careful but I once drove down a road when the river was over, done it hundreds of times before. Forgot I had the horse trailer on (empty ) the drag from the current was really scary. My old Defender pulled it out, but some vehicles might not have done.

That was the road to Carleton from Skipton if anyone wants to try it

So is the Abergwesyn road. Alas, the heavy rains are no respecter of tarmac and we get lots of it in Wales which makes the hill roads vulnerable to flooding!
I use this road quite frequently as it very pleasantly scenic, as well as being a shorter route home from Buith for me and I frequently meet 'ordinary', small cars who would not be able to cross safely and they wouldn't find out about it until they had gone a considerable number of miles and then find themselves having to do an about turn! One foreign reg. car driver I came across was terrified of just driving round the sharp bends on the steep inclines - he was white with fear - so I had to give way and let him come round on my side to keep him off the drop!!

Might not even need the push rods - Paul said he'd shut it down before the water hydraulic'ed anything (hopefully).

that get least 5 foot deep.
I wont do it if its over the second bar on the fence.
seen it a couple of times where the fence disappears for a dozen or so sections.
