Guys

After a wonderful day off roading on sunday I find to my dismay after not only loosing my front bumper blowing a lamp and loosing a rear spring cos the fixxing plate had rusted off, I know appear to have acquired a creek/knock when i turn the sterring wheel.

OK, so have checked all the joints steering arms etc and lubed up the column but i still get a creeky kind of knocking noise. now! this isnt all the time when moving and it will only do it once in eaither direction (complicated ? yes!) but it does it al the time everytime when stationery.

Any ideas? or shud I just turn up the radio and ignore it? have noticed lately too that on bouncy roads, it does tend to bump ster a little.

Ta muchly!!!!!

have you got an adjustable panhard rod....... i have one that had a rose joint at the axle end and there was loads of play in it making a clonking noise.... had to change rose joint. it made the noise when stationery and sometimes when moving.
the other thing is cranked radius arms from scorpion, a mate of mine managed to totally shear off the top bush holes at the back of teh axle end without noticing. (sorry about the explaination!) they arent very strong, mine have survived but i never push the truck very hard.
Just get a pry bar and check every ball joint, bush and mounting for play or cracks.
Hope you find the problem

My old defender hybrid made a funny noise the first time I took it off roading properly. All sorts of strange clunks and clangs, including when braking it would clunk as soon as brake pedal was hit. It settled down after a few weeks and never made a noise again until O/S CV joint started to go (clicking noise when turning) about 4 months later, but had been off roading numerous times by then.
