hi guys, anyone know if the heated screens are fused and run by 2 relays?? tried mine this morning in -5 and only the passengers side cleared!! typical,, just wondered if anyone had got this problem at all, havent had a chance to look in the fuse box at the relays yet,, any help would be great,,

forgot to mention its a 1999 p38 4.6, screen on passenger side cleared in 1 minute, nothing on drivers side, had a look at screen and it looks to be original landrover unit,

Had no end of trouble when Autoglass replaced my screen a few years back - the screens themselves proved to be defective and needed 4 yes 4, before both side were working. I've got a 99 4.6 Vogue too. There are two connectors somewhere near the middle - if you remove them and check the voltage coming through to the connector, you will know if your screen has developed a fault or if there is a line feed problem to the connectors. That was what Autoglass did (eventually sent their "head" technician out to do this....) Easy enough to do but a bit fiddly to get to, I can't remember now if he removed that plastic scuttle area or not, I think he did.

Yes, lots of fiddling, plastic scuttle off. Not a difficult job, just put your logical head on and take your time. Be careful prising plastic bits off in the cold weather. Make the most of it and replace the foam behind the scuttle while you're at it, only a couple of quid on ebay and it saves your pollen filters from being got at by wet leaves etc.

2 fuses and 2 relays. I made a post a while back and posted a fuse location and relay location diagram.
Same as mine though, is it always the drivers side that self destructs first?

Fuse box pic thingy:

Fuse 30: Heated Windscreen LH
Fuse 32: Heated WIndscreen RH

Relay #4 Heated Windscreen Relay RH
Relay #5 Heated Windscreen Relay LH

Just thought, might be different on a '99 but good luck anyways lol.

cheers hamster97, i will check that out tomorrow, typical my old 97 rangey had everything working on it apart from a really duff engine, thats another story, thanks again

Discovered the other day my driver's side works fine, but the passenger side is not working...

Thanks for the diagram. I'll be using that too..! Does "RH" refer to (UK) driver's side incidentally?

Various bits of the heated screen work on mine, so it is definately the screen thats duff, now the passenger side mirror has decided not to de-ice and as I'm in France on the wrong side of the road it's the most important one. Typical!

Mine only works here and there mainly as it has had stone chips repaired eventually it will break and be replaced like Rangie I had 4 windscreens last time it was fitted by the RAC I think anyway a lot of the new ones are defective so make sure if you replace it it works

A bit of info from the trade on this one.
When your insuirance company requires you to only go to JOE BLOGGS windscreens to get your screen under insurance it means that they have done a deal with that supplier. To make life simpler most of these contracts are on a fixed price regardless of the screen. So, when the windscreen fitting company is faced with something like a Rangie screen they will have tried to find a cheap supply. This is usually when the problems start. Even if you HAVE to go to a particular supplier demand that they fit a Land Rover screen, with the Land Rover emblem in the screen. Don't listen to their excuses, stand your ground, apart from getting your heated screen working a modern, glued in, windscreen can be 40% of the strength of the front of your car.
