Had my FL 1 TD4 for nearly a year now. Love it to bits, sorted all niggles except orange engine management light. On and off. When its on, I have no change in performance. Engine performance is always very good whether the light is on or off. Got rid of the light for a long time (about 2k miles) by replacing vacuum hoses and cleaning the EGR. Light now mostly on, though will sometimes go off for long periods. Only factor that stops me thinking its just a spurious error is that it will allways go off either briefly or for longer periods, after hitting 4000 revs? Code reader says no stored faults. Any ideas anyone?

Codes logged are in interesting thing. Sometimes the type code reader makes a difference to what codes are actually read.
If the reader is a generic OBD2 reader, then codes that don't affect emissions don't have to be output in the IBD2 format.
A more advanced or comprehensive reader may well produce codes stored for problems that don't effect vehicle emissions.

Thanks for comments folks. Will clean EGR again and look for someone with a more appropriate code reader. Keep you posted.

You need a code reader which can access the ABS system as that's where the fault originates
Not necessarily, he mentions '1 of the three amigos' in the post header -however, there is no indication in the fault description he gives of any of the ABS / TC / HDC (the amigos) coming on.
The EML could be anything, yes, it could be a fault in the ABS module but highly unlikely without other indications.
As has been said above get a good code reader - as Nodge pointed out to someone the other day - for the price of 1 diagnostic check at an LR service agent is about the same price as owning the basic but good icarsoft unit. It could be anything at all really. (but not the 'three amigos' - (or even 1 of them!) or as they should be called 'Amigas' as they are 'b!tches! ):)

Since the 3 amigos are all ABS related warning lights and one of them is coming on then the ABS is requesting to turn the light on

Therefore they need to find out what is bringing one of the ABS lights on by reading the codes in the ABS module

Hello @td4van
I think the mix up here is the OP has titled the thread with '1 amigo' When it's the engine management light that's actually on. That's not an amigo light

But all advice given is relevant. :)

1 of them IS NOT coming on NONE of them are coming on.... so no the ABS is NOT 'requesting anything.
Please read the posts ! :( - you reply twice with the same intimation yet obviously have not bothered to read the content.
Sheesh...o_O

Bit harsh on on a respected active member!

Think your NHS taught Man Management skills are coming through bit :)

TBH - There's loads of threads come through about 3 Amigos, with content, both from OP and replies, that spews on about thoughts and speculations - when in actual fact its all drivel that's not worth reading. The only thing to do, is to read the codes to find out what's wrong - so it should be the standard "auto-response" on the forum to any 3 Amigos related queries.

The problem here is that the OP has got the identity of the 3 Amigos wrong. Having said that, I suppose the MIL light could be known as the "1 Amigo" :)

I answered very politely the first time  ... the second time though - in such a short thread....... that has absolutely nothing (apart from the incorrect title) to do with any 'amigos' sheesh...... I agree there are loads of posts re 3 A's, but also people need to bother to read the content if they want to reply as otherwise it becomes very confusing for the OP. So not harsh at all.
:D

Thanks for the offer, thats really kind and I will take you up on it if problem persists. Removed EGR and cleaned thoroughly today (sunday). The light is the amber one to the left of the red ignition/battery symbol. If this is not one of the three A's then my mistake, sorry!. Whatever it signifies does seem to be related to the EGR as it goes out after cleaning and re-fitting for some time. Currently off. Though I accept that in doing so, I have tampered with the vacuum system which is related to the braking/servo system therefore linked to the ABS.
See how it goes and I may be contacting you. Many thanks

Hate threads that have no conclusion so let me finish this one just in case someone else can benefit. Salient points are:
- I was incorrect in the description of the warning light, it was in fact the orange light fitted only to Diesels and supposedly warns of an emissions problem.
- Problem is cured and car runs like a dream, doing on average 35mpg, no lights.
- Only work I did that was responsible for cure was to properly affix the fuel pump/filter assembly which had broken free from the N/S inner wing (under the ECU box) and was suspended by its wiring loom, including some sensor wires. Fixed mount and re-plugged all cables and everything OK.
-Thanks all for your input.
