Recently bought a Y reg TD4 freelander, its immaculate and 90k on the clock. When we drove home with him, we noticed that the OSF brake was binding at little. Hotter than the rest and smelling. This was on Saturday, but today seems ok. We believe the car has been stood for a while. We have a one month warranty with the garage that sold us the car.So today we had him booked in for a MOT, even though not due till April 2012. He failed on the headlights, which they sorted and we got a 12 month ticket. The guy who did the MOT, put him back up on the hoist and showed us underneath. Very good really for the age, but just a couple of problems.

1. Rear diff leaking oil.
2.Handbrake passed, but you really have to lift it up hard. The handbrake light is permantly on, within the dash. But if I press the handbrake down it goes off. The guy mentioned about adjusting the handbrake cables, but I recall something I have read about calipers...?...any help on this.
Also 3. The anti roll bar on th front,....is too far to the right, and is knocking/rubbing against the shocker on the DS.........

Any advice appreciated, the car is going back to the garage on Thursday to have a new set of running boards put on, and I'd like to get these niggles sorted, but want to go with a bit more knowledge.

Mindy.

Try 6 months nd the general section "crock of **** " sticky

If it's been stood outside depending on the rain and the direction of the wind the front discs may well have a light rust coating - maybe more on one side than the other. This would explain the heat. Both discs should be clean and shiny.

The fault you list are all an easy fix apart from the diff seals. Get them fixed under your warranty right away.

Great motor - enjoy - be sure to check the link 'another brave little freelander'

Well done with your new purchase, but a SV says get as much as you can done under the warranty straight away. It'll save money later on.
Keep checking the coolant level and enjoy.

And ignor the tratters thems just jealous :D

Cheers guys, buying a diesel, I didn't realise I'd still have to keep checking the coolant....(T'other car an MG TF).....

as for the Tatters, sorry Tratters, roasted many of them on the fire....( sorry girls...;))

Seems the diff leak is a bugger then,.......what about the front anti roll bars and knocking...?

3. Check the drop links are fitted the right way round if one side of the anti roll bar is hitting the suspenion thing.
