Evening lads;) Really fancy doing the air conditioner to onboard air compressor mod on my 90 but before I start scouting around the scrappies, did the 2.5n/a's or TD's ever come out with air conditioners? If they did, the mounting brackets would be worth sourcing! Has anyone done this mod to the old 2.5td?:)

I dont think any of the early 90/110s came with AC.

What are you trying to achieve by using an engine driven compressor? Does your engine have the space/attachment for the pulley? Why not hardwire in a standard 12v compressor fitted snug in your battery box. I have a T max in mine along with another battery and split charge. Easily done.

TBH, I like the idea of what could be pretty good performance for a relatively reasonable cost (discounting my labour:D) To be fair, I have never seen a good quality electric compressor in action, only the cheaper variety and to be expected they are just too slow!

If you do go for a 12v then get one from a 4x4 company NOT halfrauds etc. The T max single cylinder one is good for the money. £50 and I was deflating/inflating all 4 tyres out in Morocco, did not take long. A double cylinder one would be quicker if you had the room. Mine was a bit of a compromise.

There is a post on LR addict somewhere regarding fitting, but you do need an engine with the mount for the AC pulley to attach. without this its a non-starter (i believe).

i have a ring rac900 air compressor, its a decent piece of kit will inflate a normal car tyre from flat in about 90 seconds i was going to get an airtank and a pressure switch to operate it then i can use that to run small airtools and inflate me tyres with it, and if in the future i decide to go for locking diffs i can use that to operate arb ones

The old 90/110's did come with A/C.

For 4 cyl engines (2.25/2.5 petrol,2.5diesel,2.5 TD) the compressor was part # ERC6480.

various mounting brackets:

ERC5151 for 2.25 petrol & diesel,2.5 petrol with twin belts
ETC4882 for 2.5 diesel & petrol with single belt
ETC4197 adaptor plate, for above

ERC7082 mounting plate "front"
ERC5152 mounting plate "rear" (these are kind of curved flat plates that the front of the compressor sits into)

Then there's various idler pullies and bolts. shout if you want and i'll scan the page in.
this is from my 1986 paper parts book.

You should of mentioned it when you were round on thursday, I've got the same book here with it all in

Hi Griffdowg.

Next time you use your compressor, do you think that you could make a pic for me of the compressor and split charger. Busy with my 130 for a round the world trip maybe some good tips.
Many Thanks.

Cheers Jim! Thats fantastic info;) If you could scan the page it would be appreciated:)

No probs:

on the compressor2 page, these numbers and prices apply:

#1 ERC7082
#2 ERC5152 £20.17
#9 ERC5155 £11.35
#6 ETC4197 £75.64

Bolts are a mix of:
M10x100
M8x25
M8x90
M8x40
M10x50

As you know, click the small icons then they open up, click them again and they open into a full size screen you can read properly.

I've got a complete aircon system from a 200tdi Disco for sale if you want it.

when i was travelling around Auz a few years ago, I met a guy in a tricked up Land Cruiser in the outback, who'd plumbed a compressor into his tubular bumper to act as an air reservoir, then had a push on air line to fit it.... food for thought?

you can use the magnetic clutch and bracket off on ac system, the compressor will be no use as the system uses gas and oil.Run it dry and the compressor will be shagged in no time

Seen a few ideas like that! Well worth considering if it has enough volume;)

I have seen that guys who have done this mod, fit a small oil reservoir & filter to prevent the compressor from packing in. Im still trying to get my head around doing this but so far the project certainly looks feasible;)

The york 210 compressor is ideal for OBA, i've got a couple in the garage, and keep looking on how to graft one to my Td5, but i think there just isn't enough room to mount it.

Shame as they give 8cfm of air @ 90psi. would be great for running a rattle gun.
Apparently, the York is the best one for oba;) I think, as you mentioned, its size is the drawback but would certainly out perform any a/c compressor!
