Got myself a lovely new (to me) '03 TD5 Disco a few weeks back from a garage (not LR dealer). Love the car to bits, much nicer than my old Y plate and with more toys. Went to check the oil level this weekend and it seemed very runny and weird, with the blacker oil where the level should be, but clearer liquid smeared up the dipstick. Smelt it - urgh... Diesel

Currently waiting for the garage to call me back. Hope it's just the seals/washers and not a cracked head! Either way I would imagine I've got a struggle on my heands with the basic garage warranty. Doesn't help the garage is 1.5 hours away. Going to need an oil change or lowloader to get it there! Not driving it since I found the diesel.

Gutted. :(

year its no good when you buy a car miles away to where you live, i hope it isn't the same car but last year i bought a lovely 03 plate d2 td5 auto anyway two days after i bought it the rad burst on the way to angelsey on a sunday so we used the AA to carry use back home rang the garage ( 35 miles away from our house ) in the morning and told them they said can you get it to us as we don't have a recovery truck so we had to use the AA again they replaced the rad under warranty and the warranty only lasted for a month anyway to cut a long story short as the car was too unreliable we sold it and bought another d1 300 tdi auto but i hope you sort yours as they are a good car if reliable.

Sorry to hear about that! What a faff! Yeah the D2s do certainly have their fair share of problems but in my mind it's "better the devel you know" as now at least I'm familiar with them all - hence why I went for another D2 whilst there are still nice ones about, rather than a D3 which is going to be a whole new board game for me.

Feel a bit better today, got hold of chap who sold it to me last night, impressed me by saying straight away if it is anything leaking it will probably only be the washers; if it was the head craacked I would be getting smoke too. Not 100% sure if I agree with that if it is a small/long term leak or porus head. But we'll see - i hope he's right. Anyway, he's happy for me to drop the oil and get the washers changed locally without insisting I drag it back to him (1.5hrs away) which is good. He also impressed me with his suggestion that because it had only been used for short cold runds for a couple of months on and off the garage, you can get a fuel buildup. I read elsewhere on the internet so info from Delphi about how similar problems had been found in airport runway D2s due to the same reason. So he obviously knows his stuff!

Fingers crossed it will get sorted.......
