old smoky

advice wanted for a landy that wont stop smoking please. owner of a series 3 would like to know what the actual cause of a smoky engine may be. some advice suggests faulty valve stem seals? i've tried engine restore at fifteen quid a tin. short term results but still harsh smoke when idling or running in gear without any throttle applied. anyone had similar propblems? come on marcus you must have an idea.

Er...I'm presuming it is a diesel & what colour is the smoke? doesn't the problem disappear/improve when warmed up?

i found nico patches stop me smoking try sticking some of them on yer engine failing that give us a bit more info like yer maun marcus says is it diesel or petrol ? what colour smoke? and what brand of cigarettes is it on??

If its valve stem oil seal, it is likely that the engine will smoke more when letting off the accelerator on up-changes. Sounds like a piston ring to me, have you done a compression test? If not, and you dont have the tester, and your reasonably local to Southend, I'll come and do it for you - if you want!.

does this thingy smoke on acc or over run or both or when cold or hot or if heading east???? and marcus you should know that the person you called me is infact my mechanic......now you mention it this could be of cause of why its taking so long to glue me landy back together!!

what the f@@k! the diesel smokes on start up, to be expected i know. what troubles me is that when i change down and, say, coast in second it puts down a trail of smoke that would impress the red arrows.

hey dude you can't beat the sweet fresh smell of french country air mixed in with some freshly spilled OEP 90 especially after a light drizzel of rain. and you know what they say....;if you can't stand the smell stay out of the kitchen.......

after copius amounts of bob's best my advice would be a.. don't change down
and b... don't coast or paint it red and pour in a few cans of red bull
