Old recovery 1960's landy

My mate has been looking at an old 60's short wheelbase recovery vehicle
It was used in the Mersey Tunnel, short wheelbase so as it could spin around easy in the tunnel
Thing is it's now on a Q plate because it spent years on trade plates after its tunnel duties ended, what's the chances of getting the old reg or age related plate back ?

Depends on whether he can prove the original identity, its probably on a Q plate as its id couldnt be proven or built from parts. Chassis number will need to be there or have a mountain of paper work to back it up.

If it has a chassis number and isn't too badly knocked about from original as far as chassis, engine gearbox, axles etc then an age related plate should be easy. To get the original number you have to be able to link the number to that vehicle, and they won't accept that much to prove it.
I recovered the original 1951 number for a bike recently as I had the buff logbook showing both the chassis number and the reg and then had the owners club sign off (about £10) that it was the original bike matching the documents from 1951.
On the other hand I could not recover the original number on another bike, even though I know what it is and the chassis number from the factory records shows when the bike was built in 1956 because I cannot link the two together in acceptable documents, this one will end up with an age related number once complete and the owners club confirm that it is all made from contemporary parts. the only other way, as DVLA don't keep documents pre about 1985 or so, is to find the original county records, but good luck finding them!

Is it a 2 wheel drive landrover.....mersey tunnels had quite a few.

Not sure, I do know it needs a chassis and bulkhead, nice sweet petrol engine in it

Have a look at the front axle see if it has a drive shaft to it.....not many made.
A non 4x4 Landrover.

I remember seeing a military 2wd Series 1 at a local car show a few years back.

As far as I remember there were some built for the RAF.
