Hi guys it's been a while since I've been on as I got rid of my last p38 for a dodge, big mistake I know,
Anyway I have bought off a very good friend of mine today his p38,why? Because I love them.
Anyway there re some issues with it hence why I've had it or peanuts,
Story of the car my friend bought it 11 years ago from a range rover dealer,it's a 1999 4.6hse on multipoint gas,(I know the dreaded gas)
Anyway it's finished in like a champagne silver with full leather inc matching Leather steering wheel and all colour coded bumpers grill etc.
Well my friend works all over the world putting up quarry plants for a living and wanted comfort when he got home sometimes free 5 months away, well around 5 years ago The dreaded engine overheated and he had it in to a specialist who rebuild his engine with updated parts to suit the gas conversion, this cost him just under £3000, and it ran fantastic after, then last year after moving home he lost his keys for the car so it's jst been parked up ever since, he now has a key for it and he put a new battery on and it fired straight up the only issue after a few seconds the alarm goes off all the time.
I think perhaps the key needs re syncing or becm perhaps.
Anyway I'm having it off him like I said cheap, and getting it dropped off this week some point.
Trying to get some thoughts together so I can get straight on it when it arrives.
Sorry for the long essay just wanted you all to know I know motor the history on it, it's not just an eBay spares or repairs job.

Thanks in advance
Gav

If the alarm has the Bbus sounder it could be the internal battery has failed, unplug it and see what happens. The internal battery is charged from the car battery so with a flat main battery it will eventually fail.

Hi datatek,
How would i know if it has the bbus sounder fitted and Would you happen to know where it is mounded please and like cheongthong says should they be changed at a certain period?
Thanks

It's on the inner wing between the battery box and the fuse box. If it has 4 wires it's Bbus, 2 wires it's not. The battery is inside the sounder.
Battery life is 7 to 10 years, maybe a bit more. Not designed to be changed but can be done if you are handy with a soldering iron.

Cheers data
Car being dropped off at weekend I will try and have a proper look at it then,
Any idea correct oil viscosity to use please?

For engine oil - 10/40. I use semi synth & change every 6k. Mineral is ok if you change at these intervals.

No worries,

Mine runs on gas. Running gas actually creates less contaminants in the oil so is better in that respect. Cam wear can be a problem on these but improved with regular oil changes.
PS. the wheels are comets, i do think these are the nicest looking standard P38 wheel (also used on late D2's).

I'm thinking of changing the wheels anyway and getting some 20's or 22's like I had on my others,I got loads of plans for it, cannot wait to get it, the rest seats have never ever been sat on, my friends had it for 11yrs and he's single and never had anyone in,then the owner before him was our boss who only used the car for back and for to work he never had anyone in rear also.

Be wary of changing to 20" especially 22"s! They tend to tramline & ride is a little harsher. My mechanic has 20" L322 Vogue wheels on his p38 & the ride does suffer.

Yeah I've had 22's on before' this will be my 7th p38.
What gas system do you have on yours and how do you find it?I've never had a Gas p38
Have you ever been Europe with it?
Can you service the gas system yourself?

Mine is a Tartarini sequential system with 95 ltr tank. Been fitted since 2005 @ 56k miles (after new engine from LR). Reaching 150k now & it's never missed a beat. Switches over seamlessly & no noticeable lack in performance. Just keep the cooling system tip top.
I get 18mpg on a good run but average around 15mpg.
My mech services my system - usually just a filter change every 24k (it tells you when it's ready for a service).

Hi guys quick update,
Went up to mates house today, quick jump tart and up she started straight up god I was chuffed. Then the alarm siren sounded,so what I done is just disconnect the multiplying on the siren and the alarm stopped and he kept running,my mate jumped in it and he drove it from his house 4miles to mine, it took the air suspension a while to set itself up but risked as it should.
Got it back home to mine and took my mate home, then jumped straight on it a3 hour clean, new battery, all suspension now working correct, all windows set, everything works as it should.
Except
The key fob does not lock or unlock the car so I'm thinking I need to resync it?
I've done a search on here but found quite a few different ways to resync it.
Could someone please do me a step by step procedure please?
Pics to follow.
