Old diesel.

As above, it'll be fine in a sealed container .... and a cheapo dewatering funnel off the interweb will get rid of any water in it, if necessary :)

Still using 25 year old red diesel from the bottom of the tank left over from when the farm got sold in the 90's.
The old Fordson still starts first time on it.

With fuel that old, you could always add a cetane booster to it, to replace the volatiles ... depends if you CBA'd :D

Don't want anything too volatile in it otherwise we'd be dodging bits of engine.:p

:D - Yeah I know, these fordsons aren't up to much :D:D:D

Seriously, it'd run better, smoke less, and use less - we boost all our Gas Oil (red) to Derv levels, and the reduction in smoke, noise and consumption is noticeable :)

works bought a red diesel tank to fill the Kubuto 2150 came with a couple of hundred litres in it...boss filled the Kubota up and got around 10mins down the drive before it conked out...I spent the rest of the day cleaning out the fuel pipes of jelly like substance...but at the same time we changed from.roller towels in toilets to air dryers so had loads of linen rolls...so 25ltr drum cut base off turn upside down pack with layers of linen towel and filter the diesel through...got us from.France down to Portugal and around for 2wks...

If it's has a decent top on during storage I'm sure it'll be fine. You can always use it bit at a time if your unsure. I need a better container for my chainsaw petrol. When the saw refuses to start I pour the old stuff in to the Citroen C1 tank. It's usually just a couple of litres in to a half full tank.

Never heard of diesel bug.

Yep.
And it’s a pain if you get it. Don’t think it’s likely in modern forecourts but water in long standing/old fuel will cause problems.

Used to add biocide to fuel when ever we refuelled (that was a few hundred cubes a time and in dodgy places where water could have been added too “bulk it”:))

Never heard of diesel bug.

Big issue on pleasure craft as the fuel stored in their tanks can be years old as they do such low hours.

Our recently purchased boat had issues with diesel bug and buggered up the injector pump and all four injectors, cost over 2k in parts alone, luckily for me this happened to the previous owner! and now the fuel is dosed with Marine16 biocide in fact I overdose it every now and then, but whilst the biocide aint cheap its way cheaper than diesel fuel equipment.

When I was a serving Coastguard I was called out to inspect a fishing vessel the lifeboat had towed in.
It had twin tanks of over a thousand lt's each. There was no fuel reaching the engine and on checking the starboard tank was found to be full but the port one empty. The fuel feed was from the empty tank but the return went to the full one ! The cross feed pipe of over an inch internal diameter was totally blocked with the black sludge of the diesel bug. How the old engine had kept going with all that crap in the tanks I don't know.

Just to support several previous... I used to own a diesel powered boat and used Biocide at the end of the season every year.. Why? Because a mate of mine didnt, and started a season with a failed engine on his first trip. We found gooey diesel throughout the whole system. Diesel Bug is VERY real!
