im new to all this head off stuff, and you guys really helped me in my fuel supply crisis, thankyou. i now intend to atempt to sort out my rattling tappets. i have read the threads, but really want to know before i go in, what do i need in addition to tools. my tappets are rattling like fook and there is a strange ticking noise from near the bulkhead. when i get in there i want everything to hand to sort it so any gentle advise would be much appreciated.
once i have got them sorted im gonna follows busters thread and tackle the fuel pump.
im a novice that wants to learn, so please be gentle, handle me like a series 1.....lol

Hi Owensdad, here's a few thoughts which I hope will help you:

1. For doing the tappets you will need: feeler gauges to measure the gap; flat bladed screwdriver and suitable sized ring spanner for adjusting the locknut; a new rocker cover gasket; a 27mm socket and long handled ratchet driver to go on the crankshaft bolt, to turn the engine.

2. The ticking noise will likely be caused by either the fuel lift pump or the vacuum pump - both on the drivers side of the engine block.

Good luck

Dave
