oily brake

Hi evreyone
Went for an mot the other week and my series 3 failed on the rear off side brake so i got it home n took off the drum to find it full of oil, so i cleaned it up n burnt off all the oil but couldnt find the leak drove it for a week n took it apart again n found it just as bad if not worse tan b4, full of oil.
Does anyone no where the oil could be coming from n wat gaskit ill need, i gess ill need a set of new pads any other segestions would be apriciated

You can get a kit to change the rubbers, you probably cant see the leaking because it will do it under pressure when you apply them, if you have an an OME Landy part or Lucas i would keep it and buy the kit to fix it, as they are far more superior than the ones you buy right now, the new ones are shoddy and not well made

Think about it....if it is leaking OIL then it is not going to be an issue with the brake cylinder. Unless you are using oil instead of brake fluid in your brake system!

Chances are it will probably be your hub seal - change that.

Clean up the brake pads etc in petrol, that will get all the oil off nicely. Scrub the pads a bit once cleaned with a wire brush.

I have heard that you must replace shoes if they have oil on them, its the law!

I dont think its the cylender could it be the the axel case oil seal

im with rusty on this one hub seal

I've got the same problem with mine as this, did you solve it? How easy is it to change the hub seal?

check your hub seals ALSO make sure the axle breather works

Pull the dust covers back on the brake wheel cylinders. If it's dry behind the dust covers, then you need to fit new hub seals. If you're doing that you should also get a hub flange gasket and a new hub locknut locking washer and a split pin for the castellated nut on the end of the halfshaft.
