The P38 uses Dexron in the transfer box, so may be correct.

Early t/boxes ie LT230R or T used EP90 gear oil.
With the transition to the Borg Warner unit (the one with the VCU) ATF lubricant was specified.

post 1988 IIRC is the Borg Warner unit and that is ATF Dex III
