Hi there, I am trying to figure out whether in order to change the OIL SEAL REAR MAIN BEARING (Part number 542492, 3b crankshaft) of my old SIII 109 Marshall Ambulance, I would have to dismantle the head, etc. or it's enough, once the engine out of the car, to access from below, i.e. taking out the oil sump, to gain access to all of the parts that have to be disassembled.

Thank you.

you only need remove the starter flywheel and rear housing, leave sump in situ

Aha, thank you for your answer. So, if I understand well, I would have access to the parts shown on the attached image without dismantling sump nor head... right?

if you want to drop the rear main cap off you will need to remove the sump ,lr engines have allways had issues of leakage from the cap joins, you would need guides to help relocate the cap with new t seals fitted or you can use rtv silicone sealant

Well, it's not so much that I want to drop it :)) but that these 3 main bearing engines have a different seal than that of the 5 bearings and I am afraid I have to drop it perforce to change the seal... So it would seem that by taking out the sump I'll gain access to part G (previous image), but it's unclear to me whether to be able to take out part E (same image,) it would suffice to drop flywheel and its housing (hence my doubts with regard to head dismantling.)

im not sure where the head dismantling comes in but you prise seal out back towards the crank boss pickle out the garter spring and open up seal and pull off , it is easier if you slacken rear cap and allow it to drop a little to remove the clamping pressure on the seal for removal and refit

Aha, yes, now I think I got it. I was thinking that I would need to displace the other half (E) as well (for which I believe --not sure though-- that the head would have to be taken out,) but from your answer I understand that only rear cap (G) needs to be slackened.
