Iv got my 200tdi in my s3 running now, and Two things are worrying me i connected the oil pressure wire from the 200tdi to the one on my S3 loom and now the oil pressure light stays on...
Thing is i had this engine running in the disco with no lights on before it went in so what have i done wrong ??
Also connected the temp sender wire to the one on my s3 and its not warming up at all #

Obvious question - have you got them the wrong way round?

The other possibility is the senders work the other way round. Someone might know...

dunt the oil pressure gauge work on a pipe ( analogue mechanical ) on a series landy or is this an aftermarket gauge:confused::confused::confused::confused:

noo mines a lates series 3 and its a electrical,
i just thought as its the 200tdi sender for both they might not be matched to the series guage?
 
hi i have a 200tdi in a sereis 3. the oil presure light is electric so should go out have u got the right wire ?
for the temp guage u sill need to use a series 3 sensor but u will have to get an adapter for it becasue they are different size to a discovery one

The oil pressure switch on the di is similar to the series so should work, check your wiring I suspect that the wiring is earthed somewhere, that would make the light stay on.
The sender on the di has a diffo resistance than the series so might not work, mine does but it only just lifts the needle when warm.
 
The S3 oil pressure switch is a simple normally on pressure operated switch that operates when the oil pressure rises above a certain level which turns the light off. Does the light come on if the wire is not connected? If so it's a short to earth somewhere. If it comes on when you connect to the switch then the switch is faulty.
The temp gauge is a thermally sensitive resistor and there's different types - some increase resistance with temp and vice versa. They also operate across different resistance ranges so the sender has to match the gauge. I presume a series sender won't fit a 200 engine so you might not get this to work properly.

Light only comes on if connected, is there anyway to test the oil pressure?
its just had an oil change.
 
Also People with 200tdi's in series 3's whats the vibration like ?
Mine is on new mounts and vibrates a fair bit at idle
 
You might have an oil temperature sender and an oil pressure switch on the oil filter block - you might have them mixed up.
 
With regard to oil pressure,have you not considered installing a oil pressure gauge,that way you can check pressure at a glance instead of relying on the wiring. All this is bearing in mind the engine is sound to start off with (you have said it was ok in disco).

Personally i would fit a gauge because you can keep an eye on it and usually when the light comes on when driving its normally to late,pressures already gone.
