Oil or one shot?

My swivels only have the fill plug at the top so is it likely to have one shot or oil in?

It's a 1997 Disco 300Tdi

If it's oil is it a case of taking to bits or can I syphon it with my big syphon thingy?

I would've taken the plug out of the top but I think it was put in by Samson on the day it was built and then welded up with rust

You have one shot as your disco is a 1997 model u should have Teflon swivel balls.

'Should' have one shot! 97 was a long time ago & dog snot and iron filings 'could' have been put in.

Dip it when you've got the plug out.

Yep, i bent a spanner on mine,admittedly i did have a 12" pipe on it:doh: Why the feck people yank up on a tapered thread i dont know, they are self sealing and only need a bit of copper-grease or even oil and a firm tightening.

It started to round-over so i tapped on a short 1/2" extension which fits perfectly on a 1/2" plug and that gave me a much stronger, fresh square-end to yank on, a large adjustable wrench and my foot against the wheel finally got it moving but i was getting a bit worried

There was bugger all oil in my swivels:doh: so anything would be an improvement, so far there is no sign of it ****ing out so i'm chuffed with that.

The biggest improvements i have gained are putting the right ATF in the box, the one-shot and greasing all the prop joints, the transmission is now really quiet and smooth.

what is the service routine when you have one-shot???

I am not kidding myself that the housings are oil-tight so some loss is inevitable, but how or when do you check it??

There isn't one and you don't

I believe that if your swivels were the later one shot ones they were sealed and designed to last the life of the swivel

I wonder if they were thinking that the car might last longer that 5 years

Oh well, i'll keep an eye on leakage and worry about it when it happens i guess
