So after a few months of Range Rover ownership i have juust had y first Moment! Stopped at the filling station yesterday (petrol, oil, tires, fill the screen wash etc) Everything fine but noticed a small weep of oil from the oil filter.
Drove home less than one mile, parked got out and noticed smell of burning oil, looked under the car and saw several rapid drips of ol from the front left hand side of the engine. Opened the bonnet and what had been a weep a mile ago was now every where!!!! Oil coating everything below and back from the oil filter holder (we have a 2002 HSE).
I let the engine cool down and very soon the dripping stopped and the cleaning could begin. i Gunked the muck off and dried everything. When i removed the oil filter cap the O ring was split and in bits so that at least answered the question as to why all the oil.
Quite trip to my local LR dealer and parts sorted for new filter and O ring. All fitted with no problem, Oil level checked and topped up. Run the engine for a few mins, no more leek, checked and topped up the oil again (enough to fill the filter).
However the oil warning light creeps on after a few mins. I dried the sensor as much as I could but I know it got wet when I cleaned the mess up. Engine running fine, no knocks, smoke etc. Removed the sensor and let it ry out in the sun. refitted it and it stayed off for a while then crept on, then faded, then on again then faded and so on.
Could this be just a slight short on the sensor from wetting wet or an I looking at selling the house to pay for something major?
Please help.
Many thanks

PS i already realise im an idiot for getting everything wet when I cleaned the engine so no need to remind me.
