Oil mist over starter motor, filter and bell housing underside

Hi guys as title says I've a oil leak on engine base offside.it covers the filter ,starter and bell housing base. Not sure if filter seal gone but starter gets covered. Could I have a crack in engine block? Or has crankshaft oil seal given up? What's the best way to check?
Should I clean up a d run engine while on ramp to see?
Any advice welcome guys

Cleaning it good then running up as you say would be the best place to start.

I would think very unlikely a crack in the block.
