Hi all, I have replaced the sender unit on my 200 tdi and had the pressure tested and all was fine for a week but now the light seems to have started coming on when I am slowing down or the engine is idling but not every time. Does anyone know what could be causing it??

Have you checked the wire terminals on the sender unit? It's quite possible that: a) they are heavily corroded, or b) the wires are not nipped tight in the clip. There is always the change that a wire has worn through very thin somewhere down the line, and moving depending on the weight of your braking and then staying in the "dogey" position whilst idling. It's not likely to be a ****ty sender unit considering that it is brand new - is it?

Just an after thought, there must be a problem somewhere near the sender. It is acting as a switch which is actually illuminating the oil light on your dash. Unless there is a break or a bare which is shorting somewhere along the line, your sender unit is closing the circuit. Check that there are no loose wire strands etc. Are you sure you have the right sender unit for your enging?

I didn't do it at all today and I hope should hope its the right sender unit as a landrover specialist put it in while he was fixing several other things which were wrong. The mechanic said that he isn't sure what it is and that it could be any number of things but I was just seeing if anyone else on here had a similar problem and could give me some advice. Thanks for the reply pos but all the wires that I can see seem fine.

I did have the problem, with the same symptoms that you described yourself. My local specialist (where I bought me landy from) changed the sender and I haven't had another problem sinse. It is possible that you have got the wrong sender unit. Have you actually checked your oil level  !?

Good luck with getting it sorted, I'm sure someone with more knowabouts than me on here should get you sorted!
