Hi everyone, can someone please tell me what the best way to check the oil on my motor is? Before you all respond and call me a moron; I have asked several different people and have had several different responses. One bloke said check the level when engine is cold, one said run the engine for a few minutes then check, one said drive the car until it reaches fulll working temp, leave to cool for 20 minutes then check. I am so confused. Some please give the definitive answer! PLEEEEEASE!!!!!!!!!!

Does it not tell you how to do this in your owners manual??

I check mine by lifting the Landy up on a crane, tipping it upside down, then opening the bonnet and pulling the stick out, usually there's no oil on the stick by now so I top it up with a gallon of antifreeze - job done:doh:

No seriously, Check the oil with a cold engine on a preferably level surface;)

if the pistons come out the side of the enjin then theres no oil innit!

always check when cold on level surface!!! that applies to any car!

Doesn't matter hot or cold just DO NOT OVERFILL it. This is no joke I had to pick up a car from a garage forcourt where the lady owner (very pretty but Blond) had filled the engine right up to the top of the filler !!!! could have spanked her!

ive seen a woman putting the oil in her car through the dipstick tube, instead of removing the oil cap, needless to say there was more oil on the forecourt floor than in the engine:doh:
