i found a leak at the rear of the engine,i first thought rear crank oil seal but after investigation it,s coming from the top somehwere,it,s not the rocker gaskets as new ones were fitted just before i bought the car a month ago, could it be the valley gasket if anyone knows,id appreciate any help as im going away to abingdon in a cuple of weeks and would like to sort it out before a go

i fitted the rubber ones as per the rave cd,but after looking around again yesterday,im convinced it,s the rear crank seal,im going to take to my mates garage to see what he thinks, before i remove the gearbox.as i think some of the oil above the gearbox is where the rocker gaskets had leaked but i didn,t clean off very well;)

There is a small plate bolted on to the bottom of the bell housing.Remove it and see if any oil is leaking down at the rear of the block. If it's engine oil, could well be from the rear oil seal or cricifix seals on the rear main bearing cap. Be absolutely sure though that all other possibilities from above have been verified as the only fix for the crank/crucifix seals is either engine or gearbox out.

thanks for that,we removed the plate your telling me about, there wasn,t much oil on it and we cant see any oil running around inside, even though it is a tight space,we managed to us a fibre optic camera and it looks pretty dry,so we are now trying to check the back of the engine from above.i think it,s one of those in visable leaks, oil is there but you can,t find where it,s coming from;)
