My defender 300tdi has developed a leak behing the very bottom pulley on the engine i originally thought it was the sump but deffo behind the pully is this an easy job what does it involve? Cheers rob

That sounds like your front crank oil seal has a bit of a leak and could possibly do with replacing ... big-ish job, or if it ain't too bad, just keep an eye on yer oil levels. ;) ;)

Replacing it means a front end strip down, and you will have to remove the timing chain and wheel from the crank.

Once that is off, simply prise the old seal out and replace with the new one ensuring that it sits approximately 0.5mm below the housing face.

surely you mean timing belt....

not really much of a front end strip, fan off, a dozen or so bolts on the timing cover, release bolt, belt off, pull crank pulley off (this may be the hard bit).

An a pulley wiv teefs is a spocket!

So a timing chain, beit simplex, duplex triplex or rubber has teefs wot locates it onto the right bits of the sprockets and makes it all work ...

However, belts does not have teefs otherwise they would be chains, coz chains do have teefs, which is why belts wiv no teefs have to go on pulleys wot also have no teefs!

Simple innit!! :D :D
